Kirstie Allsopp at The Stitchery

Having bitten our tongues over this for the past few weeks, we can finally let you in on the reason why we recently posted a photograph of Kirstie Allsopp standing in our living room. She, and her creative film crew, were in fact filming us for a brand new Channel 4 show called Fill Your House for Free

The premise behind the show is that it is possible to furnish and decorate your house with lovely things, that reflect your own sense of style, without spending your entire family budget (or even much of it at all!); A premise that we firmly stand by in our household, where most, if not all, of our furniture has been obtained for free, either by gift or by dragging someone else's junk off the street and applying our own creative touches.

Our house, and in particular our living room, was chosen to feature as an inspirational home on the show: A small section (we're told only 4 minutes) where Kirstie visits the home of someone who already fills their house for free as way of life.

Admitedly, there is a mixed sense of excitement and anxiety at the thought of seeing ourselves on TV. But if you're interested in watching it, we shall be featuring in the first episode of the series, airing on Channel 4, Tuesday 23rd July at 8pm. We also have some great photos from behind the scenes here on our Flickr page.

Also, in the coming weeks we'll be blogging some step-by-step HOW TOs, showing exactly how we made some of the pieces in our flat. This will include the shelves made from an old ladder (or "shladders"), wall-mounted cubby holes made from old drawers and a table runner made from old lace doilies. Stay tuned!
