Do I Need My Own Sewing Machine?

Students are not required to bring their own machines to class, but are welcome to do so if they wish. The Stitchery has eight CXL301 machines available for student use, which is enough for even our biggest classes. We also sell a range of Janome sewing machines and offer discounted prices to all our students.

If you're planning on bringing your own machine, please contact us and let us know the make and model.

Fabric & Supplies

BASIC SEWING KIT

For anyone learning to sew, we always recommend investing in your own supplies. We sell everything you'll need for this course at our studio, so you're welcome to wait until you arrive. And we do have some tools available for student use, so if you'd rather not invest yet, that's okay.

If you're purchasing kit items separately, here's what you'll need:

  • Fabric scissors - We sell Fiskars brand
  • Dressmaking pins
  • Thread - A colour to match your main fabric (always go slightly darker if you can't find a match). We sell the Gutterman brand at the studio and highly recommend this.

FABRIC

For the Intro to Sewing Workshop you'll need to bring 1 metre of medium-weight cotton fabric. We recommend 100% cotton for this. The fabric colour and print (design) is entirely up to you and choosing it is part of the fun of these workshops!

Cotton fabrics with different prints and some Gutterman threads of different colours.
