The Everyday Jumper

  • The Stitchery 24 Sandyford Pl Glasgow, G3 7NG United Kingdom (map)

4 Week Course // Tuesdays, 6:30pm - 9:30pm // Level: Beginner // Cost: £120 (includes pattern) // Instructor: Susie Haigh // Pattern: Linden Sweatshirt or Paxson Sweatshirt

Learn how to sew with knit fabric and make your very own sweatshirt(s) for everyday wear.

One of the beautiful things about making your own clothes is the variety of fabrics you can use. In this course we'll be delving into the world of knits: the perfect fabric for comfortable, every day clothing.

This course is open to complete beginners and experience sewers alike. So if you've only ever sewn with woven fabrics before, this is chance to try something new. And if you've never touched a sewing machine before, don't worry because we'll be giving you a quick overview at the start.

Techniques taught will included: choosing knit fabric, cutting patterns, using your home sewing machine to sew knits - tips and techniques, attaching ribbing, basic seams, raglan sleeves, hems, and using a twin needle.

Your canvas for this course will be the Linden Sweatshirt by Grainline Patterns or the Paxson Sweater by Seamwork (a unisex option). Both are perfect everyday jumpers for the cooler late summer nights, or for layering up this Autumn. And, once mastered, both can be made up in a varety of fabrics with different styling alterations.
